Box Score MARSHALL -- There were two noteworthy items in the statistical report of Saturday's battle between the visiting University of North Texas at Dallas women and Wylie College.
The fast-improving Trailblazers used a late game rally to defeat the Wildcats, 69-66, upping their season record to 3-0.
Meanwhile, the official attendance at Alumni Gymnasium: 0 -- since the host school is in the midst of replacing bleachers which have not yet been installed.
Thus, people missed an exciting game, one that was in doubt until UNTD standout
ShanDrea Yeldell, who scored 23 points during the afternoon, drove in for a game-clenching layup with just 22 seconds remaining.
The early season victory surpasses the total number of games Coach
Rodney Belcher's squad won last season.
"We finally figured a way to attack their zone (defense) and began making shots," he said. "And we played good defense, particularly in the second half. I was particularly pleased that we held them to just seven points in the fourth quarter."
Wylie was in command through the first half, going into intermission with a 39-28 advantage. By the end of the third, however, the visitors had cut the margin to eight.
"It was a tough game, and a weird one, playing without fans."
It was also costly. In the second quarter, Nina Rickey collided with a Wylie player and fell to the floor where she was knocked unconscious. After paramedics transported her to a local hospital where she was examined, it was determined that she had suffered a concussion. She was later released and is due for examinations later this week.
Belcher predicted she would likely not return to the lineup until next month. The loss comes on the heels of last week's loss of veteran
Aja' White, who suffered a season-ending knee injury against Huston-Tillotson.
"Losing two veteran players is going to hurt," Belcher admits. "We'll now have to have some of our freshmen step up."
After trailing by double digits early, the Trailblazers steadily improved their shooting percentage over the course of the game, going from 22 percent in the first quarter to 44.4 percent in the final period. Joining Yeldell in double figures were
Mykayla Dumas with 16 and
Tamia Miller with 11.Â
 Miller also contributed 11 rebounds.
Diamond Hawthorne and Kaitlyn Davis led Wylie with 15 points each.
The Trailblazers' next game is Thursday (Nov. 11) at neighboring Paul Quinn. Â
