The thunderstorms that forced cancellation of most Homecoming activities steered clear of the Trailblazers men's and women's basketball teams as both squads won their season-openers October 29
th. Playing their first games at their new Trinity Basin Athletic Complex home, the UNT Dallas women downed Dallas Christian College 75-35, while the men beat North American University, 81-43. The women never looked back after jumping out to a 19-9 first quarter lead.
Zyunn Cormier was the high scorer with 16 points,
Delyssa Miller had 14 points, while
Mykayla Dumas scorred 11. Amber Covington led Dallas Christian with 8 points.
Houston's North American University squad was no match for the UNT Dallas men, as the Trailblazers followed a 35-22 lead after the first 20 minutes with a torrid second half to prevail, 81-43. Vernon Johnson, last year's Sooner Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, had 16 points. Newcomer Tariq Aman also had 16. For the game the Trailblazers shot 45% from the field and 67% from the free throw stripe. C.J. Miller was North American's top scorer, with 10 points.
