Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Same Tune, Different Gym

WAXAHACHIE -- So, forget the notion that a change of scenery might help the University of North Texas women's basketball team escape its month-long victory drought.
Playing a make-up game against nationally-ranked Mid-American Christian in the Southwest Assembly of God University's Sheaffer Center Sunday afternoon (Feb. 6), the results were again all too familiar.
The visitors, currently tied for the Sooner Athletic Conference lead, upped their league record to 15-2 with a 59-42 win over the struggling Trailblazers.  The sixth straight loss dropped UNTD to 4-13 in conference play and 10-14 for the season.
The powerful Evangels are 22-2 for the season.
The game was played here due to the shut-down of the Singing Hills Recreation Center because of the recent winter ice and snow and difficult travel conditions last week when the game was originally scheduled.
Coach Rodney Belcher's squad made it interesting early on but a second half scoring surge from the visitors and Sydney Wycoff's eight points in the final three minutes settled the issue.  She was Mid-America Christian's leading scorer with 13 and had three steals for the Evangels.
Setting the pace for the Trailblazers again was Delyssa Miller, who scored 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
After trailing by only a single point after the first quarter (17-16), the Trailblazers managed but five points in the second and nine in the third.
There's little rest on the horizon for the UNTD women. Monday (Feb. 7) they will host Southwest Christian in a 5 p.m. make-up game at Singing Hills Rec. On Tuesday (Feb. 8) Central Christian comes to town, then on Saturday (Feb. 12) the Ttrailblazers close out their home schedule against Langston University.
