Trailblazers end season with a Win

DALLAS, TX- The UNTD women's basketball teams ended their season on Saturday with a 48-43 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State. It was senior day and the Trailblazers honored three of their own.

Sidney McHenry, is a Biology major from Ft. Worth, Texas. In her two years at UNTD, McHenry has scored 109 points, hauled in 112 rebounds and tallied up 20 blocks. Had a career high 13 points and 9 rebounds earlier this year against Texas Wesleyan and had a career high 10 rebounds in Oklahoma City this year versus the Stars.
 
Kayla James is a business major from Grand Prairie, Texas. In James' 2 years as a Trailblazer, she has tallied 285 points, 72 steals, 106 rebounds and 164 assists. Her career high came this season with 16 points against Southwestern Assemblies of God on 1/30/2024. She also dished out a career high 9 assists against Central Christian in McPherson, KS on 12/9/2023. 
 
Zyunn Cormier, is an Accounting major from Dallas, Texas. In her 3 years at UNTD, Cormier has scored 1040 points. Along with her 1,040 points, Cormier has 277 rebounds, 81 assists and 8- steals. Had a career high 36 points against Central Christian her junior year and in that same game had a career high 7 3-point baskets made. Cormier earned all-SAC 2nd team as a junior in 22-23. She scored her 1,000th point on February 8th, 2024 against John Brown University where she scored 16 points.

It took an entire team effort on Saturday as all Trailblazers who played against the Aggies, scored in the win. While the Trailblazers started the game slow scoring only 4 points in the second quarter, they made up for it in the second quarter scoring 16 points and both headed to the locker rooms with the score tied at 20 a piece. The Trailblazers were led by Freshman, Breniya Arnold, who had 8 points at the break. 

In the second half, the Aggies outpaced the Trailblazers in the third quarter 12-9, leaving UNTD down 3 points heading into the 4th quarter. The Trailblazers turned up the offense scoring the most points of the day in the fourth quarter outscoring OPSU 19-11 and lifting the Trailblazers over the Aggies 48-43 for the win.

Leading the Trailblazers, Breniya Arnold finished game with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Kayla James and Sanaa Murphy-Showers both add 8 points a piece. The Trailblazers end their season 5-17.
