WAXAHACHIE -- The University of North Texas at Dallas' men's basketball team got a look at life at the top here Tuesday (Jan. 18) evening when it paid a visit to Southwest Assemblies of God University, the NAIA's 12th ranked team. The view wasn't pleasant.
Shooting 52 percent from the floor, the hosts breezed to a 85-69 victory that solidified their Sooner Athletic Conference lead with their 11th win against a single loss. The visiting Trailblazers, meanwhile, fell to 4-8 in conference play and 8-11 for the season.
It was all SAGU as it took a 44-33 halftime lead and never took its foot off the gas. For the night, it connecte4d on 52 percent of its shots while UNTD managed only a 34 percent.
Tyler Kingborn led the winners with 21 points and teammate Josua Kashlie added 17.
Vernon Johnson was the leading Trailblazers scorer with 18.
Things didn't go much better for the Trailblazers women as they were defeated, 98-86. The loss dropped them to 4-8 in league play and 10-9 for the overall season.
And there's little time for the Trailblazers to regroup. Thursday (Jan 20) they travel to Oklahoma Science & Arts for a conference doubleheader.
