OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – University of North Texas at Dallas women's basketball dropped its conference opener, 74-52, at Mid-America Christian on Thursday evening. The Trailblazers (1-2, 0-1 SAC) were outscored in three quarters, which included a 23-10 second quarter that allowed the Evangels (5-0, 1-0 SAC) to pull away.
UNT Dallas held an early lead that reached 6-3 after a pair of free throws by sophomore
Sanaa Murphy-Showers (Plano, Texas) in the opening minutes. The next five points flipped the lead for the Evangels and then a basket by freshman
Ke'Liyah Anderson (Dallas, Texas) knotted the score at eight with three minutes to go. A trey by MACU gave the home team the lead for good and six free throws closed a 10-2 run to make it an eight point-game.
A layup by junior
Alauna Moore (Crowley, Texas) counted for the first points of the second quarter and sliced UNTD's gap to six points, but MACU extended its advantage to double-digits and led 41-20 at intermission.
The Trailblazers outscored Mid-America Christian, 14-9 in the fourth quarter, but the difference on the scoreboard remained wide throughout the remainder of the game.
Senior
Eryka Patton (Hutchins, Texas) registered her second double-double in a row and in as many total games this season with 10 points and rebounds. She has eclipsed double figures in rebounds all three games. Patton also had team-highs with two blocks and three steals. Senior
Mya Bills (Rockwall, Texas) had a season-best 10 points from the bench. Murphy-Showers chipped in six points, rebounds, and a game-high four assists.
UNTD shot 29.9 percent (23-77) from the field and were 4-for-9 at the free throw line. MACU hit 33.3 percent (21-63) from the field and were 30-for-41 at the stripe. Both teams slumped from behind the three-point arc with each side making two.
Syncere Harrod led all players with 19 points and had six rebounds. Kylee Scheer and Shy Christopher combined for 27 points by also hitting double figures with 14 and 13, respectively. Seven players had at least five boards, while none were in double-digits and the team achieved 61 as a team.
UNT Dallas makes its season debut at Ellis Davis Center on Saturday, November 16 for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off with Oklahoma City.
