UNTD Women's Basketball Closes Road Trip at Science and Arts on Tuesday

CHICKASHA, Okla. - University of North Texas at Dallas women's basketball dropped a 62-52 result against University of Science and Arts on Tuesday night at Drover Fieldhouse. The Trailblazers (2-6, 1-5 SAC) were outscored by nine points in the first half and were unable to close the gap in the second half.

UNT Dallas never led in the game but forced two ties in the opening quarter at four points and 10 points. Senior Skye Dugan (Richardson, Texas) knocked down the game-tying trey with 4:11 left in the opening frame. Science and Arts (5-2, 3-1 SAC) answered with a three and scored seven of the final nine points to lead 17-12 after one.

The Drovers stretched the lead in the second quarter to as many as 13 points just past the midway juncture. A trifecta by sophomore Sanna Murphy-Showers (Plano, Texas) cut the gap to 10 points and then it reached single-digits after a layup by senior Eryka Patton (Hutchins, Texas) closed the first half with a 33-24 deficit.

Both teams had their highest scoring quarters of the game in the third with Science and Arts posting an 18-16 edge. Dugan cut the score to the closest mark of the quarter at seven points (43-36) after she made a layup on the fastbreak and completed the old fashioned three-point play with a free throw. The margin ballooned back to 11 points at the end of the quarter.

The largest lead of the game for Science and Arts was 19 points just past the midway part of the fourth quarter. The Trailblazers closed the margin to 10 points, which was the final distance in the game. They outscored USAO 12-11 in the last quarter.
