2nd Quarter the Difference for UNTD Women's Basketball against Eagles

TEXARKANA, Texas – University of North Texas at Dallas women's basketball fell 81-69 in a road conference game at Texas A&M-Texarkana at the Patterson Student Center. The Trailblazers overcame sluggish start to go up 13-12 after one quarter. It was a 10-point second quarter that favored the Eagles (24-14) and proved to be the deciding factor in this contest.

UNT Dallas fell to 4-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while Texas A&M-Texarkana improved to 6-5 overall and 5-1 in conference.

Jade Myles (Dallas, Texas) delivered a career-high 23 points, shooting 7-of-15 overall and 5-of-10 from downtown. She was a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line, as she also swiped three steals. Myles played 40 minutes of action.

De'Asia Johnson (Dallas, Texas) posted 13 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Johnson went 7-for-8 at the free throw line and swiped four steals. The forward has swiped 25 steals on the campaign and had multiple steals in each outing. This is the second most for Johnson on the year, and one behind a season-high five at Texas A&M-San Antonio (12/4/25).

ShanDrea Yeldell (Dallas, Texas) chipped in eight points and dished six of the team's 12 assists.

The Trailblazers shot 37.3 percent (22-59) from the floor, made five triples, and were 20-for-22 at the charity stripe. UNTD turned the ball over one less time (25-24) and took 13 steals. The Eagles had 18 steals themselves and won the battle on the boards by 10 (41-31). Points off turnovers were even at 25. A&M-Texarkana won second chance points (18-9) and points in the paint (50-24). Fastbreak points were eight a piece for each squad.

The Eagles were led by Breyionce George with 18 points and nine rebounds. She dished three assists and swiped two steals. Nailah Zetrenne and Maiya Petit had 12 and 10 points, respectively. Imani Rothschild scored seven times, but did damage in other categories with nine boards, five assists, and five steals to lead those columns for the game.

Texas A&M-Texarkana shot north of 50 percent from the second quarter on and were 49.2 percent (31-63) overall. They made four triples and went 15-for-25 at the line, which further points to the major scoring being inside the post.

The game started favoring the home team with two baskets making it a 4-0 lead. Myles got the Trailblazers going with a trey a minute and a half into action. The next points by either team occurred two minutes later on a fastbreak layup by George. UNTD's Lauren Pete (Rockwall, Texas) countered with a layup to keep it at a point. This continued until a pair of Myles free throws and a field goal for a consecutive time by Kaylyn Minor (Garland, Texas) flipped the score for the first time to make it 11-8 with 2:16 left in the first. A final layup by UNT Dallas' Sanaa Murphy-Showers (Plano, Texas) made it 13-10 with under a minute and matched the largest lead of the game for the guests. Texas A&M-Texarkana closed with a basket to make it a one-point difference.

The Eagles immediately went on top to start the second quarter and scored three points to go up by two. A trey by Myles switched the advantage to UNT Dallas one final time, before a 6-0 run propelled the Eagles ahead by two possessions. They never trailed beyond that juncture, as a trifecta by Myles and jumper by Yeldell knotted the game at 21 with under five minutes until the break. Six more points went toward the Eagles second quarter surge, as Unique McBride scored the go-ahead layup, Rothschild followed with a trey, and Petit split at the line. The Trailblazers got an answer from Sophia Fisher (Taylor, Texas), as the freshman scored her highest point total with a pair of free throws and a jumper to slice the deficit to four (29-25) and about three minutes to go. Seven of the final nine points went down the Eagles' basket and a late layup by UNT Dallas' Minor made it 36-27 at halftime.
The Trailblazers competed to remain in the contest and worked hard early in the third quarter to reduce the margin to as close as six. After an early score by the Eagles to stretch the gap to 11, the Trailblazers charged back on an 8-3 run to slice the score to six (41-35) with 6:47 left in the third. Channing Beauvais (Paradise, Texas) scored the next four points for UNTD with a pair of free throws and swiped a steal to get the fastbreak layup. That made it a seven-point margin. After an A&M-Texarkana answer, Yeldell picked a steal and Ke'Liyah Anderson (Dallas, Texas) scored on a fastbreak layup with an assist from Yeldell, who later capped this run with a layup that was assisted and started on a Johnson steal.

Six straight points by the Eagles negated the run and a Myles trey would be all UNTD could counter to keep the game under double-digits the rest of the third frame. With under a minute, the Eagles pushed out to as large of a lead as 17 (62-45).

UNT Dallas did not go away in the last 10 minutes, as a 7-0 surge sliced a 15-point spread to eight points. Johnson was responsible for five straight points including an old fashioned three-point play. She scored 11 points in the quarter. A pair of free throws by Murphy-Showers nipped the score to six points (71-65) with six minutes to go, but that was as tight as the game became the rest of the way. Texas A&M-Texarkana was able to increase its lead to double figures and held on the rest of the way by that amount.
