Crawford and Johnson Garner SAC All-Conference Honors

3/5/2025 2:00:00 PM

OKLAHOMA CITY – University of North Texas at Dallas men's basketball had two players selected to 2025 Sooner Athletic Conference postseason honors, which the league office announced on Wednesday. Junior Greg Crawford (Houston, Texas) and senior Vernon Johnson (DeSoto, Texas) claimed accolades, as one was an impact leader on the Trailblazers in his first season with the team, while the other cemented his legacy as the longest tenured player to achieve a postseason accolade in every campaign.

Crawford was named All-SAC Second Team, while Johnson was Honorable Mention for the fourth time. Besides Johnson's consistency with all-conference in every season with the SAC, he earned 2021-22 SAC Freshman of the Year.

Crawford appeared in 28 games with 26 starts and led the team in scoring and rebounding, being the only SAC player to average double-digits in points and rebounds throughout several junctures of the campaign. Crawford ended the season with 17.6 points-per-game and 9.7 rebounds-per-game. His 271 total boards and rebounding average led the conference, while his scoring total of 493 points and ppg slotted him fifth on the league leaderboard. Crawford reset the season record book in free throws with 157 (previous was 112 by Jules Moor in 2022-23), field goals with 162 (previous was 151 by Moor), points (previous was 442 by Moor), and rebounds (previous was 209 by Johnson in 2021-22). Crawford led the conference in free throws made and free throw attempts, while checking into third for field goal percentage with a .536-clip. Crawford became the first UNTD men's basketball player to eclipse double figures in scoring every contest this season. He also earned the most double-doubles by a player in the program during one season with 18.

Johnson also appeared in 28 games with 26 starts and was the conference leader in steals, while doing that and finishing second on the team in several other categories. Johnson's leadership intangibles helped guide the team through the season and describe the program's only four-year player beyond just numbers. He does boast great numbers, with a conference-best 58 steals and 2.1 steals-per-game. Johnson is also 11th in assists with a 2.8 average and tied for that same spot with 79. Johnson broke his own steals record by six from a season ago and matched his steals-per-game clip. He finished second on the team in points, field goals made, three-point field goals made, and third in rebounds. Johnson averaged 10.1 points-per-game to tie second and eclipsed double-digits 16 times. Johnson became the first player in the program to break 1,000 career points and finishes as the career leader in points with 1,264. After breaking 500 career rebounds to set the all-time record with 514 a previous year, Johnson cements his top place in that column with 630. He moved past 200 career assists and steals this season as well with 237 and 203, respectively.
