Trailblazers End Skid with big Road Performances at Jarvis Christian

HAWKINS, Texas – It was a good slumpbuster for University of North Texas at Dallas women's basketball, as a quartet reached double figures to lead the way to a season-high 87 points and defeat Jarvis Christian, 87-49, on Thursday. The Trailblazers led each quarter and averaged 20 points per quarter to grab the season series sweep over Jarvis Christian.

The Trailblazers ended a seven-game losing streak and have clinched a spot in the Red River Athletic Conference tournament in two weeks. They improved to 9-12 overall and 8-11 in conference. Jarvis Christian drops to 4-21 and 2-16.

UNT Dallas also moved up two spots in the conference standings, as it tied with Our Lady of the Lake who fell that evening to Louisiana Christian. Saturday's opponent for the Trailblazers, Texas College, lingers one game behind.

De'Asia Johnson (Dallas, Texas) tied a team-high 19 points and grabbed her sixth double-double of the season with a team-leading 10 rebounds. Johnson also had a trio of threes, was a perfect 5-for-5 at the line, and snatched two steals.

ShanDrea Yeldell (Dallas, Texas) nearly earned a triple-double with 15 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists. Yeldell's total number of rebounds and assists marked career-highs, and the number of assists tied a single-game program record with Kayla James against Central Christian (12/9/23).

Jade Myles (Dallas, Texas) matched a team-high 19 points with three made three-pointers, four assists and steals.

Allysa Pendley (Waco, Texas) was an efficient 80 percent field goal shooter with 8-of-10 display for a career-high 17 points. Pendley's previous personal-best was 15 achieved twice over her collegiate career. She notched the amount earlier this season at Louisiana Christian (1/15/26) and her freshman year against Southwestern Assemblies of God (12/16/22).

Eight different players recorded points for the Trailblazers, who tallied a season-high 36 field goals and shot 48.6 percent overall. This was their second contest of the season to eclipse double-digits in three-pointers with 10 and was two behind its road display at North American two weeks ago.

UNTD amassed 42 rebounds, 20 assists (third time to eclipse 20 and one shy of season-most that was done two times), and 21 steals (tied second-most for third time on campaign). The Trailblazers turned the ball over a season-low 11 times.

The Bulldogs were led by Carmela Hayden with a game-high 24 points. They shot 31.4 percent (16-51) from the floor, with two three-pointers, and 15-for-27 at the free throw line. JCU posted 39 rebounds and turned the ball over 27 times.

This was all Trailblazers, with a 33-11 edge on points off turnovers, 15-8 edge on second chance points, 40-20 edge on points in paint, and 12-6 edge on fastbreak points.

The Trailblazers led wire-to-wire in this much-needed victory as they scored the first five points and jumped to an 11-2 advantage through four minutes of action. After a slow start scoring, the Trailblazers came up with six points in 30 seconds with Myles putting bookend makes around Yeldell. Yeldell and Myles had steals that led to quick baskets in this surge. The Bulldogs pulled within six points (11-5) with three minutes left in the opening quarter, but Channing Beauvais (Paradise, Texas) sank a mid-range jumper and a triple by Myles opened a double-digit lead with 1:47 left. Myles had another trey later to keep the margin at 10, but two late free throws sent the teams to the benches in a 19-11 game.

That was as close as the game would be the remainder of the way, as Johnson tallied seven of UNTD's nine points to begin the second quarter through three minutes with a 28-11 edge. This included a three-pointer to cap the run. After a jumper by JCU's Carmela for the first home basket of the frame at 6:52, Johnson notched another basket to give her nine points through that span.

The Bulldogs chomped at the deficit to get within 11 points (30-19), as the visitors went quiet offensively. Yeldell buried a trifecta, Myles etched the next five points with a steal to layup and added her third three-pointer. Pendley was able to get a fastbreak layup after Khalaizah Martin (Dallas, Texas) initiated the breakaway with a rebound that found Yeldell who got the dime to Pendley. This reflected a 21-point lead (40-19) with three and a half minutes until intermission. Kayden Riley (Dallas, Texas) had a jumper push the largest score of the half to 22 points with 1:57 remaining. Yeldell would score at the buzzer on a jumper to send UNTD into the midway break up 45-26.

The 26 points in the second quarter were a game-high for UNTD, which was the lone quarter to shoot north of 50 percent (58.8) in the contest.

It was all Trailblazers in the second stanza, as the margin grew to as many as 33 points (66-33) on a layup by Kaylyn Minor (Garland, Texas) with 3:11 minutes left. The Trailblazers outscored Jarvis Christian 22-15 in that quarter.

The Trailblazers put this game away in the fourth, using a 20-8 difference to complete their biggest win of the year that was more of an indication to their four-game winning streak to begin 2026. Abigail Ramos (Irving, Texas) made a corner three for her first triple of her collegiate career, and Martin capped the season-high in scoring with a layup to get on the board. That marked the largest lead of the game at 38, too.

UNT Dallas wraps up the regular season road portion of its schedule at Texas College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
