Myles continued Strong Road Trip with 20-Point Performance at Texas College

TYLER, Texas – It was a close finish for University of North Texas at Dallas women's basketball at Texas College on Saturday afternoon. The Trailblazers rallied for a small lead in the third quarter, but this back-and-forth affair went the home team's way with a 3-2 difference in free throws the last 33 seconds leading to a 58-57 Texas College win. UNT Dallas is 2-4 in games decided by four points or less this season and has dropped its last three games in these scenarios by three-points or less in 2026.

The Trailblazers offense struggled most of the day and was held without a field goal the final 4:23 minutes of the game. A free throw by Allysa Pendley (Waco, Texas) lifted the team to a slight advantage (55-54) with under three to play, but the next four points went the Steers direction. Leading scorer for the game, Jade Myles (Dallas, Texas), made two free throws to pull UNTD within a point. In the final four seconds, Texas College was at the free throw line and missed both attempts. Myles grabbed the rebound on the far left side, but was unable to get a strong look off as time expired.

Myles paced all scorers with 20 points, as she made the team's only three-pointers with a trio of them and was a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line. Myles eclipsed 20 points for the second time this season, as she combined for 39 points over two games in the road week. Myles also had four rebounds, three steals, and an assist.

It was a difficult loss for the Trailblazers, as they dropped into a three-way tie with Texas College for the final three seeds in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament. UNT Dallas fell to 9-13 overall and 8-12 in conference play. Texas College improved to 10-16 and 8-12 in league play. Our Lady of the Lake University fell Saturday to remain in a three-way tie.

The Trailblazers have clinched a spot in the conference tournament in their first season joining. They also are in the postseason for the first time since their inaugural season 2021-22 as members of the NAIA and Sooner Athletic Conference. These three teams split head-to-head regular season matchups, so any tiebreakers will be determined once all games are completed next week.
Johnson was the other UNT Dallas player to record double-digits in scoring with 11 points. She also had six rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

ShanDrea Yeldell (Dallas, Texas) contributed nine points and rebounds, which matched a career-high for consecutive games. Yeldell did recently tie the school record for assists on Thursday, as she added three against the Steers to go with a pair of steals.

UNT Dallas shot 32.1 percent from the field and were 17-for-24 at the free throw line. The team won the rebounding battle 41-38, which led to a 12-10 advantage on second chance points. Otherwise, it was Texas College winning by the margins, as it collected an 18-17 edge in points off turnovers and 20-16 on points in paint. The Trailblazers committed 25 turnovers and swiped 14 steals. Texas College turned it over 18 times and swiped 16 thefts.

The Steers shot 30.6 percent overall and dropped in four three-pointers. They went 16-for-26 at the free throw line.

Rakia Lee and Cadee Roland each had 10 points for team-highs. Taryanna McNary grabbed 10 boards and chipped in seven points. Eight players spread out the offense for Texas College.

It was a close game throughout the way with the home team leading most of the first half. The Trailblazers fell behind 8-2 through nearly seven minutes of action. They righted the ship over the next two minutes by scoring six points that was highlighted by a steal that led to a three-point play by Yeldell. The Steers went up by five with around a minute left, and a free throw by Ke'Liyah Anderson and jumper at the buzzer by Myles capped a 15-11 score.

It was a quick start to the second quarter that led the Steers to a 10-point advantage. Yeldell got UNTD on the board in the second frame with a jumper and Johnson would also have one to keep the deficit from surpassing 10. Myles hit a trey and Sophia Fisher (Taylor, Texas) sank a pair of free throws to cut the gap in half (25-20) with a little over four minutes before intermission. Texas College answered with a triple by Neani Stewart to raise the gap to eight.

Myles took over for the Trailblazers, as she scored the next six points from 2:39 to 2:18 with the help of a quartet of free throws. That pulled the team within two points (28-26), but the Steers finished strong to carry a 33-28 lead at the break.

The third quarter was the best shooting frame for the Trailblazers with an 8-for-19 showing. The other 30 minutes resulted in a combined 10 field goals with no more than four in a period. This third quarter was the only one that the Trailblazers outscored their opponent in and tallied a 19-14 edge.

Channing Beauvais (Paradise, Texas) had a big influence, as she scored six of her seven points within this span. A steal by Sanaa Murphy-Showers led to an assist, as she found Johnson for a game-tying layup (35-35) three minutes into the third. Texas College broke the tie with a three, but UNT Dallas swung the momentum with its first lead of the game a little over a minute later. Yeldell made a layup and Johnson dropped a pair of free throws for a 39-38 lead. Beauvais scored the next four points to push UNTD in front by four points (43-39). After Kaylyn Minor (Garland, Texas) made a basket and Beauvais capped her nice third quarter with her third field goal to reflect on the largest Trailblazers lead of the game at seven points (47-40). This also capped a 12-2 run for the Trailblazers in the period.

Texas College was able to equalize the score with the final seven points in two minutes.

Myles completed a rare four-point play on a three-pointer and free throw to start the final 10 minutes. UNT Dallas made one other field goal on an Allysa Pendley (Waco, Texas) layup at 4:23, which kept UNTD up 54-52 at that time. Ultimately, the Steers rallied throughout the fourth quarter, forcing three ties and going up on just enough timely frame throws down the stretch.

UNT Dallas is at Trinity Leadership Public School for its final two regular season games. The Trailblazers host LSU-Alexandria on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. They will honor four players on Saturday for "Senior Day" against Louisiana Christian at 1:00 p.m.

The quartet of seniors are: Minor, Murphy-Showers, Pendley, and Yeldell.
