Trailblazers Finished a Tough Home Week against Texas A&M-Texarkana

CEDAR HILL, Texas – University of North Texas at Dallas women's basketball closed a busy stretch of basketball at home on Saturday against Texas A&M-Texarkana. The Trailblazers got off to a slow start, but were able to close strong in the opening quarter to trail by three points. However, it would be a difficult day for the remainder of the game as the Eagles went on to win 74-45.

UNT Dallas falls to 8-12 overall and 7-11 in conference play as the losing slide reached seven games. The past three games this week at Trinity Leadership Public School were against the top three teams in the league, which included an unbeaten Red River Athletic Conference team in LSU-Shreveport.

The Eagles improved to 16-7 and 14-3 in conference play.

The Trailblazers continue to show their tenacity and grit to compete with teams in the conference. They were cold offensively, falling behind nine points in the opening three minutes. Each side was unable to find the bottom of the net until 5:14, which was the Eagles again to open a double-digit lead.

Abigail Ramos (Irving, Texas) ended the UNTD drought with a layup at 4:22 to clinch her first field goal of her collegiate career. The Trailblazers sprung to life the final 1:42 minutes of the opening stanza, as they rattled off the last eight points on two field goals by ShanDrea Yeldell (Dallas, Texas) and Kaylyn Minor (Garland, Texas) to nip the score to 13-10.

UNT Dallas continued to fight in the second quarter throughout most of the period until a large outburst in the final three minutes sent the Eagles to the break with a 35-19 advantage. The home team continued to battle but were unable to close the gap in the second half.

Yeldell led the Trailblazers with 12 points and added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Minor chipped in 10 points and a team-high seven boards. Kayden Riley (Dallas, Texas) added seven points.

The Trailblazers shot 33.3 percent from the field and were 14-for-28 at the free throw line. They compiled 46 rebounds, 41 turnovers, 10 assists, and 13 steals.

The team did match a season-high six blocked shots four the fourth time on the campaign, with the other contests being at Texas A&M-Texarkana (12/4/25), versus North American (12/13/25), and versus Texas College (1/8/26).

The Eagles were led by Breyionce George with 13 points, while Chi'onne Dailey followed with 11. Eleianna Brown completed the top double-digit scoring trio with 10.

11 different players found the scoring column. The Eagles shot 36.1 percent from the field with two three-pointers. They did make 28 free throws, grabbed 39 rebounds, dished 14 assists, and swiped 23 steals. The team was also forced into 17 turnovers, one of the lower totals for UNT Dallas on the season.

While a lot of low numbers for the team, it was still a game the team battled and will continue to search for a response with two weeks remaining before the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.

UNT Dallas heads to East Texas for games at Jarvis Christian University (2/12 at 5:30 p.m.) and Texas College (2/14 at 3:00 p.m.).
