Trailblazers Complete Season at RRAC Women's Basketball Quarterfinals

TEXARKANA, Texas – No. 6 Seed University of North Texas at Dallas women's basketball dropped a 72-59 result at No. 3 Seed Texas A&M-Texarkana University in the 2025-26 RRAC Women's Basketball Quarterfinals on Wednesday. The Trailblazers were unable to overcome a 17-5 first quarter and battled from behind throughout the game.

UNT Dallas completed the campaign with a 11-14 record, which matches the most overall wins since 2022-23. The Trailblazers 10 conference wins marked a program-best and helped the team clinch their second overall conference tournament berth and first since 2021-22 when were part of the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Headlining the statistics for the Trailblazers was De'Asia Johnson (Dallas, Texas), who was named All-RRAC First Team on Thursday. Johnson tallied 26 points, which was two shy of tying a career-high from this season at Louisiana Christian (1/15/26). The junior forward made nine field goals and was 7-for-8 at the free throw line. She posted game-highs in rebounds with eight and steals with six.

Johnson led the team this season with 16.2 points-per-game and 7.8 rebounds-per-game, which ranks within the top five in the RRAC for both categories. Johnson also has accumulated 74 steals, 58 assists, and 11 blocks. She has dropped 41 three-pointers. Johnsons all-around performance on both sides of the ball proved to be lethal with her best season of her three-year career. Johnson recorded six double-doubles, which included a personal-best 28 points and 10 rebounds at Louisiana Christian. Johnson eclipsed 300 career boards and is the all-time record holder in the program. Johnson was a two-time RRAC Player of the Week this season.

Also ending the season and her career on a positive performance was senior forward Kaylyn Minor (Garland, Texas). She totaled a season-high 14 points and seven boards off the bench. Minor was an efficient 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. Her previous highest scoring game was a 22-point performance at Oklahoma Panhandle State during her freshman year on January 19, 2023.

The Trailblazers shot 40 percent (20-50) from the floor and 2-of-11 from three. They went 17-for-29 at the free throw line and were led by Johnson in that category. The rebounding battle was tight with TAMUT narrowly grasping a 45-44 edge.

Turnovers proved costly as UNT Dallas committed 26. The 50 field goal attempts were the second fewest by the Trailblazers this season. The lowest mark was 45 attempts on February 7 against Texas A&M-Texarkana. Johnson was not available for that game either.

UNT Dallas matched season-high seven blocked shots for consecutive games. Channing Beauvais (Paradise, Texas) was responsible for three of them, as the freshman ended with the second-most on the team with 21 overall and 10 in the last three games of the season.

Beauvais was another Trailblazer that earned All-RRAC Honorable Mention. Beauvais contributed for the Trailblazers in several roles during her first season with the team. The freshman was a postgame threat that had a good shooters touch that defenders had to respect. Beauvais scored a personal-high 13 points against LSU-Alexandria (2/19/26), which proved to be a crucial three-point win (74-71) in securing No. 6 Seed in the RRAC Women's Basketball tournament. Beauvais posted 165 points, 94 rebounds, 21 blocks, and 27 steals.

ShanDrea Yeldell (Dallas, Texas) gave the Trailblazers their most recipients on an all-conference team with an All-RRAC Second Team selection. Yeldell averaged 10.6 points and was a top performer on the team and in the league for assists and steals. The senior currently ranks first in the RRAC with 121 assists on games played through the Quarterfinals of the RRAC Women's Basketball tournament. Yeldell is second in the conference for steals with 108. Yeldell broke the single-game record for steals in a game with 11 (Texas College on 1/8/26) and tied the program mark for assists in a game with nine (at Jarvis Christian on 2/12/26). Yeldell netted a career-high 30 points and became just the third player in the program to eclipse that point total in a single game. Yeldell did receive RRAC Player of the Week this season.

The Eagles improved to 20-9 overall and advanced to the RRAC Women's Basketball Semifinals at Alexandria, Louisiana, on Saturday. They shot 35.5 percent (27-76) from the field, made five three-pointers, and were 13-for-22 at the line. They did most of the damage defensively with 19 steals, as a quartet of players swiped at least three. The Eagles committed 16 turnovers, but UNTD's defense usually is able to force more miscues on opponents.

Leading TAMUT was Breyionce George with 15 points and seven boards. Imani Rothschild and Maiya Petit had 11 points each. Unique McBride chipped in 10.

The Eagles held a 29-19 advantage on points off turnovers with them gaining a 14-3 edge in the first quarter and 20-3 edge in the first half. The Trailblazers posted eight points off turnovers in each frame in the second half and held a 16-7 advantage during that span. Second chance points went the Eagles way, 21-17. Points in the paint were 40-32 in favor of TAMUT, and the home squad earned a 12-4 edge on fastbreak points.

After allowing four points to start the game, Jade Myles (Dallas, Texas) got the Trailblazers on the board with a triple two minutes into action. The lead ballooned to 17-3 before a layup after an offensive rebound by Minor at 1:23 left would end the dry spell.

UNT Dallas responded with four points by Johnson in the first minute of the second quarter to cut the gap to 17-9. However, the Eagles offense was able to push the lead to double-digits throughout the period and would lead 39-20 at halftime.

The Trailblazers outscored Texas A&M-Texarkana 19-9 in the final quarter, as they battled to the final buzzer.

First-year head coach Otis Nicksion saw many positives this season as a year of growth for a program that overachieved the RRAC Preseason Poll prediction of ninth place by two spots. The team also had the first-ever All-Conference First Team selection and most RRAC Player of the Week recipients in program history. As mentioned above, the team put together some of its best records in results since the inaugural start of the program, and many numbers in the record books will be updated soon.
