BETHANY, OK- The UNT Dallas Trailblazers secure another Sooner athletic conference win behind junior
Vernon Johnson's season high 28 points.
The Trailblazers, (5-8, 4-6) took an early lead behind the play of Johnson and
Tariq Aman, though both UNTD and SCU(0-12, 0-10) struggled in the first half both shooting in the low 30% from the field. Though the Trailblazers led for much of the first half, it was only by a small margin as they took a 34-25 lead into the locker room. The biggest difference maker in the first half for UNTD was hitting 7-10 from the FT line to the Eagles 3-10. In the second half, the Eagles came out of the locker room and made the Trailblazers work for every basket as they took a one point lead early in the second half 39-38, but it wouldn't last long as
Vernon Johnson,
Tariq Aman and
Kanntrell Burney came on strong and combined for 55 of UNTD's 74 points. The Eagles es outscored the Trailblazers 41-40 in the second half behind shooting 50% from the field, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Trailblazers who also improved their shooting percentage in the second half to 42%.
