Johnson hits season-high 28 as Trailblazers secure road win over the Eagles

BETHANY, OK- The UNT Dallas Trailblazers secure another Sooner athletic conference win behind junior Vernon Johnson's season high 28 points.

The Trailblazers, (5-8, 4-6) took an early lead behind the play of Johnson and Tariq Aman, though both UNTD and SCU(0-12, 0-10) struggled in the first half both shooting in the low 30% from the field. Though the Trailblazers led for much of the first half, it was only by a small margin as they took a 34-25 lead into the locker room. The biggest difference maker in the first half for UNTD was hitting 7-10 from the FT line to the Eagles 3-10. The Trailblazers have struggled for much of the year from the free throw line, but took advantage in the first half of play.

In the second half, the Eagles came out of the locker room and made the Trailblazers work for every basket as they took a one point lead early in the second half 39-38, but it wouldn't last long as Vernon Johnson, Tariq Aman and Kanntrell Burney came on strong and combined for 55 of UNTD's 74 points. The Eagles es outscored the Trailblazers 41-40 in the second half behind shooting 50% from the field, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Trailblazers who also improved their shooting percentage in the second half to 42%.

Once again it was a team effort for UNT Dallas as 10 different Trailblazers contributed in the win. Along with Johnson's 28 points he added 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 rebound in 34 minutes of play. Aman added 14 points, 6 rebounds and going 6-7 from the free throw line. Kanntrell Burney added 13 points hitting 3 of 7 3-point baskets,

The Eagles had two players with double digit efforts with Ron Moore leading with 19 points.

The Trailblazers are back in action this Saturday for a home contest against the Evangels of Mid America Christian University. The men are scheduled to tip at 3:45pm immediately following the women's game
