Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Trailblazers Prevail in Overtime Win over the Stars

DALLAS, TX- In another Sooner Athletic Conference battle, the UNTD (3-7, 2-5) men's basketball team prevails against the Oklahoma City University Stars (3-11, 1-6) 85-72. It took extra time, but off of Tariq Aman's UNTD career high of 25 points and 21 points of the bench, the Trailblazers secured their second conference win.

In the first half, UNTD took a 35-27 lead to the locker room off of Aman's 15 points in 15 minutes of play. Though both teams shot low from the field, with OCU shooting 32% and UNTD shooting 33%, the Trailblazers capitalized on 9 OCU turnovers. The Stars in the first half were led by Brandon Jackson's 6 points and 2 rebounds, but had 8 different players contributing.

In the second half, the Stars outscored the Trailblazers 36-28 off of Brandon Jackson's 22 points. The Trailblazers took a 63-60 lead with 44 seconds remaining off a Daniel Sohn lay-up, but freshman Yorgio Golesis hit a big time 3 pointer with just 4 seconds in regulation to send the game into overtime.

It was all Trailblazers in overtime, though, as they outscored the Stars 22-9. Aman's jumper with 1:14 left in the game solidified the win giving UNTD a 75-69 lead and fouls allowed the Trailblazers to extend it for the last minute.

Vernon Johnson once again contributed heavily for UNTD as the junior from Desoto, TX, surged in the second half adding 21 points including going 10-12 from the FT line. In addition to his career-high 25 points,  Tariq Aman added 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 34 minutes of play.

For the Stars, Brandon Jackson had a stellar night leading all scorers with 28 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks.

UNTD hits the road as they continue SAC Conference play at OPSU and Wayland Baptist. Fans can follow along via live stream or stats via www.untdathletics.com
