FORT WORTH, Texas – University of North Texas at Dallas women's basketball fell on Monday evening at Texas Wesleyan, 80-55. Senior
Eryka Patton (Hutchins, Texas) scored a season-high 26 points and extended her double-double streak to four games after matching a season-best 12 rebounds.
The Trailblazers (1-4, 0-3 SAC) got off to a hot start building a 7-2 advantage after a layup by sophomore
De'Asia Johnson (Dallas, Texas). She had four points and a trey by senior
Skye Dugan (Richardson, Texas) gave UNTD early success. The Rams (4-1, 1-1 SAC) scored the next five points to erase the gap. After Patton and Johnson had go-ahead baskets, the Rams would tie the game and never trail the rest of the way. A jumper by freshman
Ke'Liyah Anderson (Dallas, Texas) leveled the score at 13 with 3:14 left in the first and that was the final tie or lead change. Texas Wesleyan got a triple from Imani Mitchell and closed the quarter on a 13-1 run.
UNTD was unable to recover after that late surge and competed to stay even with the Rams the rest of the contest. The Trailblazers were outscored by seven in the second half and had their highest scoring quarter in the fourth with 16 points.
Patton shot 12-of-22 from the field and was 2-for-3 at the free throw line. Four of her 12 rebounds were on the offensive side, and she added three blocks, two assists, and one steal. Dugan and De'Asia each eclipsed double figures in the scoring column with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Dugan recorded a trio of steals and assists, while De'Asia grabbed six rebounds.
Texas Wesleyan shot 50 percent (31-62) from the floor and had a balanced attack with all 10 players scoring at least three points. The Rams were led by Kameryn Phillips with 14 points, while Sophia Hurtado notched a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards.
UNT Dallas heads on a long road trip the next three games and continues this stretch of five-of-six away games. The Trailblazers are at Wayland Baptist on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and then go to Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
