2024 ENDING WITH A BANG
- UNT Dallas picked up a victory on national TV, defeating NCAA Division I Rice University on December 19, 69-68.
- While it counted as an exhibition for the Trailblazers, it was the first win over an NCAA Division I and is the fourth time this season an NAIA program upended an NCAA Division I team.
- UNT Dallas outscored Rice, 43-31, in the second half and handed the team its first home loss.
- Senior Vernon Johnson (DeSoto, Texas) was the hero making three free throws after being fouled on a three-point shot attempt to push UNTD ahead by one. Senior Ashton Howard (Cedar Hill, Texas) had a key rebound after two missed Rice free throws to give UNTD the ball and help seal the win.
 
NEW YEAR, CHANGING TRENDS
- The Trailblazers (6-6, 3-6 SAC) open the new year with three of the first five games at Ellis Davis Center. They are seeking their first Sooner Athletic Conference win after holding double-digit leads in two of them and dropping all three by four points or less.
 
PLAYERS TO WATCH / STAT LEADERS
- Junior Greg Crawford (Houston, Texas) leads the SAC in rebounding average with 10.2 per game. He is the only player in the league averaging a double-double with 18.7 points-per-game and 10.2 boards per contest. He tops the team in field goals made (70), free throws made (76), points (224), rebounds (36 offense, 86 defense, 122 total).
- Johnson ranks second on the team with 131 points and is averaging 10.9 a game. He is the team leader in steals with 24.
- Howard is another player averaging double figures in scoring with 11.3 points. He leads the conference with 24 blocks.
- Senior Jayden Johnson-Blair (Dallas, Texas) ranks in the top five in the conference for assists (48) and is fourth averaging 4.0 a game.
- Junior Daniel Sohn (Aledo, Texas) secured his first pair of double-digit scoring totals in the most recent games at Ellis Davis. This included a career-high 16 against Nelson.

A LOOK AT THE EAGLES 
- Southwestern Christian enters with a 4-8 record and 2-7 conference mark.
- The team has played three exhibitions over the break against Rogers State, University of Tulsa, and Central Arkansas. The most recent SAC game was a 74-62 loss at Mid-America Christian.
- The Eagles host Nelson on Thursday before making the trip to Dallas on Saturday.
- Southwestern Christian was picked 12th in the SAC Preseason Coaches Poll with 26 points.
- Deondre Dunn is averaging 18.9 points-per-game and has tallied 227 total. Michal Wooldridge and George McCurdy are also players to watch in the scoring column with 14.0 and 10.7 ppg, respectively.

PREVIEW OF THE RAMS
- Texas Wesleyan enters 2025 with an 8-4 record and 4-4 conference mark.
- The Rams defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State, 62-59, at home in the most recent conference game and have won three-of-four. The lone loss was a three-point margin to Wayland Baptist.
- Texas Wesleyan did battle NCAA DI Stephen F. Austin over the break.
- The Rams have an away game at Oklahoma City on Thursday before returning to the Metroplex on Saturday against Mid-America Christian and then ending the daunting stretch in Dallas on Monday.

- These teams will play a second time this season, it's the first time UNT Dallas is playing the same opponent this campaign. The Trailblazers prevailed 76-75 in overtime in Fort Worth.
