UNTD WBB Honors Four Seniors on Saturday

DALLAS – University of North Texas at Dallas women's basketball fell on Senior Day to College of the Ozarks by a final score of 93-60 on Saturday at Ellis Davis Field House. The Trailblazers competed in the first half to keep the margin as slim as possible. A strong shooting Bobcats team proved too much going nearly 50 percent on the floor with a 49.3-clip, and UNTD could not keep up while having struggles with a 26.3 percent mark.

Following the game, the UNTD women's basketball program recognized Skye Dugan (Richardson, Texas), Eryka Patton (Hutchins, Texas), Madison Davis (Mansfield, Texas), and Mya Bills (Rockwall, Texas) as part of the Senior Day festivities.

The campus community, families, and students boosted morale by being part of the Senior Day and supporting the athletic teams in the final home weekend game.

College of the Ozarks improved to 18-9 overall and 16-7 in conference play. The team is ranked fourth in the conference standings and wraps up the season at Nelson before heading to the conference tournament.

The Trailblazers dropped their second game in a row and are 8-17 on the season and 7-16 in conference play.

Dugan scored a team-high 16 points and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. The guard grabbed six rebounds, dished three assists, swiped three steals, and picked up two blocks.

Sophomore De'Asia Johnson (Dallas, Texas) was a rebound off from a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. She also did well at the charity stripe, shooting 5-for-6.

Several Trailblazers got in the box score with nine players totaling at least one point. Patton posted eight points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Senior ShanDrea Yeldell gave a solid line of eight points, seven boards, five assists, and two steals. Bills added seven points.

College of the Ozarks held large advantages on points in the paint, 46-26, and fastbreak points, 15-2. Second chance points favored the Bobcats, 15-14, with a 5-0 difference swinging the pendulum in that category in the final quarter.

The Trailblazers ended an eight-game streak where they outscored the opponent on points off turnovers. Today, the Bobcats held a 20-11 edge. It is just the third time since the calendar year flipped to 2025 for this to occur and both matchups with the Bobcats were included in this notable. The previous game before this streak had started was at home on January 16 to Mid-America Christian.

The Trailblazers did commit fewer turnovers to COFO, 12-16, to maintain their positive turnover margin. However, It was the second fewest turnovers a team committed this season as the tenacious UNTD defense was not as forceful as it has demonstrated of late.

The opening of the game started fine as jumpers by Yeldell and Patton matched the Bobcats through two minutes. Eight points in a row for the guests opened a 12-4 lead five and a half minutes through the action. A trey by Johnson slashed the deficit to five (14-9) with about four minutes left in the frame. Johnson had a final layup with 26 seconds before the short break and the Trailblazers were behind 19-11.

Johnson continued her strong scoring with four free throws that helped account for six UNTD points and nip the deficit in half to four points (21-17) through two minutes. Both teams experienced a scoring drought and the Bobcats scored the next five points from 5:26 to 4:51. Free throws by Dugan and a jumper by Patton tightened the margin to five with under four to play, but a 13-4 run pushed the lead to 14 (39-25) with 32 seconds before intermission. Dugan had a layup to make it a 12-point halftime score.

Patton started the third quarter with a steal and after a missed three, Dugan got the offensive rebound and made a layup to bring the deficit to 10 (39-29). A 10-0 run that featured a pair of trifectas gave the Bobcats a 20-point advantage through three and a half minutes in the quarter. After a layup by Yeldell, another trey from the Bobcats sent the lead to as high as 21. They drained four triples in the second and third quarters alone. The Trailblazers connected on a few three-balls of their own with Dugan and freshman Lauren Pete (Rockwall, Texas) hitting to make it a 16-point hole with just more than four minutes. Freshman Ke'Liyah Anderson (Dallas, Texas) picked a steal and sophomore Sanaa Murphy-Showers (Dallas, Texas) tallied her second straight assist by finding a scoring Davis. Junior Allysa Pendley (Waco, Texas) stepped up on defense next with a blocked shot. She got fouled and split at the free throw line to close the score a minute later to within 13 points (53-40). That was as near as the scoreboard got the remainder of the game, as the Bobcats lead ballooned to 22 at the end of the frame.

The final quarter saw College of the Ozarks cruise to victory with a 28-17 edge.

UNT Dallas wraps up the regular season with its final game at home on Monday against John Brown. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
