4/8/2025 10:15:00 AM

DENTON, Texas – University of North Texas at Dallas track and field endured tough conditions on Saturday, as it sat through a two-hour delay and then raced on a wet and chilly day at University of North Texas for the Bill Schmidt Invite. Despite difficult conditions, the Trailblazers posted several improvements on times from their season opener at the TSU Relays, and placed well in a field that had several NCAA Division I programs.

Posting the best result on the men's side was in the field, as freshman Bryson Mcrae (Dallas, Texas) captured third in the Long Jump with a 6.93 meter result. There were 28 participants that completed the event, as Mcrae edged out a field with fellow Sooner Athletic Conference opponents Nelson and Texas Wesleyan University, and NCAA DI programs including TCU, UT-Arlington, and host North Texas.

Freshmen Markevian White (Longview, Texas) and Santos Vega (Houston, Texas) competed in multiple events, with White improving his time in the 100 Meter Dash and debuting in the 200 Meter Dash. Vega slashed 12 seconds off his 1500 Meters race and ran in the 800 Meter for the first time. He capped a quartet of times from the Trailblazers in the 800m, as sophomore Devin Page (DeSoto, Texas) notched a top-10 finish with seventh.

Page's classmate Major McGil IV (Forney, Texas) clocked a nearly identical time from his previous race with both being 2:09. Freshman Skylar Evans (Dallas, Texas) gave the Trailblazers their deepest unit of competitors in the 800m. Another deep group for UNTD was the 200m, White joined freshman Kenya Singletary and sophomore Ernest Ayanugo (DeSoto, Texas) on the event. Singletary improved on his time by being two seconds quicker from his debut meet.

Freshmen Kristian Nichols (Lancaster, Texas) and Jocelyn Owens (Dallas, Texas) continues to lead the women's side with strong performances in the 100 Meter Dash and 200 Meter Dash. The duo improved on their times in the 100m and 200m and competed in multiple short-distance races for the first time.

Teammate and dual sport athlete Ke'Liyah Anderson (Dallas, Texas) also made her spring debut in those same events. She was a guard on the women's basketball team for UNTD this season.

Senior Ryleah Fisher (Denton, Texas) competed in the Shot Put and made her first appearance this spring on the Hammer Throw. Freshman Jada Cole (Dallas, Texas) also threw Shot Put.
