KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of North Texas at Dallas men's basketball placed two members of its squad from the 2024-25 season on the 2025 NAIA Winter Sport Daktronics Scholar-Athletes list. Daniel Sohn (Aledo, Texas) and Sergio McClain (Peoria, Ill.) were named from the Trailblazers. This marks consecutive campaigns that this tandem achieved the national accolade, having done so in 2023-24.
 
This honor recognizes student-athletes in each of the winter sports who have excelled academically, including men's basketball, women's basketball, men's bowling, women's bowling, competitive cheer, competitive dance, men's swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving, men's wrestling and women's wrestling.
 
To qualify as a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete, students must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, appear on the eligibility certificate for their sport, and have attended their institution for at least one full year. This year, the list features an impressive number of student-athletes who have met these rigorous standards.
 
Sohn graduated in spring 2025 with Summa Cum Laude from the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences with a degree in Communication and Digital Media. Sohn posted a career season with 10.1 points-per-game, tallied 113 rebounds, 28 assists, 36 steals, and nine shots.
 
McClain is a business major and continued to garner success on the court and in the classroom. In his third campaign with UNTD, McClain scored a personal-best 174 points and notched 87 rebounds, 20 assists, seven blocks, and 10 steals.
 
Sohn and McClain were named to SAC Scholar-Athlete, Academic All-SAC Team, and SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
