Barron cracks NAIA National Rankings; Trailblazers gear up for Conference after Bill Schmidt Invitational

DENTON, Texas – University of North Texas at Dallas women's track and field team battled at its family school, University of North Texas, for the annual Bill Schmidt Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Trailblazers were led by Ashli Barron with a pair of short-distance times that cracked NAIA rankings. UNTD continues to produce strong times en route to another strong showing with top NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA competition.    
 
Barron was able to qualify for the finals in the 100m, as she improved on her time with a 12.24 in the last race and a sixth place overall finish. That mark also ranked her No. 61 nationally. Barron did achieve a personal record and another NAIA ranking at No. 40 in the 200m with a time of 24.96 and ninth-place finish.
 
The 200m also featured the most Trailblazers in an event with a quartet competing that included: Barron, Quintasia Isby, Jocelyn Owens, and Jarina Williams.
 
Williams notched a season-best time 1:05.21 in the 400m.
 
Naomi Peregrina and Rebekah Munoz were each able to PR in the 1500m, as Peregrina broke her own school record with a new time of 5:16.82 and was ninth overall. Munoz clocked a 6:13.97 for her best mark of her career.
 
Peregrina was also a top 10 finisher in the 800m with a 2:32.25 for seventh, while Madison Blanch came in ninth with a 2:36.30.
 
The Trailblazers had their greatest depth shown in field events this spring, as Madison Blanch performed in two events for the first time. Blanch set UNTD records on the high jump (1.29m) and javelin throw (19.88). Jada Cole threw a season-best in the shot put with an 8.44m.
 
UNT Dallas prepares for its first Red River Athletic Conference Championship in New Orleans on April 24-25.
