DALLAS – UNT Dallas athletics begins its seventh year and sixth as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The Trailblazers have featured many unique student-athletes over the years, and we are recognizing their success in the UNT Dallas Trailblazers Spotlight series.

MALAISHA CARTWRIGHT (2022-2023, 2023-2024) was a three-year member of the UNT Dallas women's track and field team and two-year member of the UNT Dallas women's cross country team. Cartwright headlined the Trailblazers in the early seasons of program with her numerous top times on sprinting events in track and field. She remains a record holder in outdoor and indoor events and is the only UNT Dallas track and field athlete with multi-year all-conference awards and leads with four overall.

Cartwright achieved Sooner Athletic Conference Second Team consecutive years in the 100 Meter-Dash (2023, 2024) and in the 200 Meter-Dash (2023). She was Sooner Athletic Conference Third Team in 2024 in the 200m.

Cartwright became the first Trailblazer student-athlete to compete at NAIA Nationals with an appearance in the 2022 Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Gulf Shores, Ala. She finished 25th with a time of 12.31. She remains the lone women's track and field student-athlete to have qualified for NAIA Nationals and first of three overall events to compete in nationals for UNT Dallas.

Cartwright remains the fastest result in the 100m with an 11.87 mark at UL-Monroe on April 22-23, 2022. Cartwright also is the fastest 60 Meter-Dash with a 7.79 result at the Houston-Yeoman FH-Banked indoor race on February 11, 2023.

Until this past season, Cartwright also held program records in the 200m, 4x100 Meter Relay, and Indoor 4x400 Meter Relay.

Cartwright was named on UNT Dallas Athletic Director's List two times (fall 2023, spring 2024). That same year, Cartwright also achieved Academic All-SAC, and SAC Commissioner Honor Roll.

Cartwright was selected to represent UNTD as a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference Association of Student Athletes (ASA) in 2023-24. She completed her education with the Trailblazers as a graduate student that earned her degree in psychology.
