Trailblazers win big on Homecoming

Men win Big on Homecoming

The UNTD men's basketball team opened their 2023-24 season with a big 100-73 win over Dallas Christian. 4 Trailblazers finished in double digits, with Vernon Johnson leading the way with 21 points. Johnson, a junior from Desoto, TX, made the most of his 22 minutes of court time also finishing with 9 rebounds and 5 steals. Senior Tariq Aman followed Johnson with 13 points, while sophomore Daniel Sohn and junior Jayden Johnson-Blair both finished with 10 points. 

As a team, the Trailblazers shot 56.7% from the field and seeing 48 of their 100 points in the paint, 40 of those points coming off the bench. UNTD capitalized on DCC turnovers scoring 26 points on 9 steals

Coach Josh Howard, saw some positive play in the Trailblazers first outing of the season saying, "excited to see the team in action today. I saw a lot of good things we can build on to become a better team." Howard is in his 3rd year as head coach of the Trailblazers. UNTD is picked to finish 8th in the Sooner Athletic Conference in the pre-season rankings.

The Trailblazers next take the court at Jarvis Christian College on November 4th. Game time is set for 4pm.
