OKLAHOMA CITY, OK- UNTD Men continue to struggle in SAC play as playoff hopes are coming to a close.
Three Trailblazers score in double digits, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Stars in Abe Lemons Arena. In their last match-up it took extra basketball to determine a winner, but on Saturday, the Stars handled business and won 73-60.
The first half was evenly matched as 8 Trailblazers scored led by
Vernon Johnson with 9. The Trailblazers out shot the Starts 36% to 26% from the field, but OCU capitalized at the free throw line scoring 14 points while the Trailblazers only had 8 free opportunities. The Trailblazers took a slim 33-31 lead heading into the locker room with a strong defensive showing of 10 steals and causing 14 Star turnovers.
In the second half, the Trailblazers couldn't get into a scoring groove as they shot just 28% from the field to OCU's 51%. The Stars were also able to capitalize on second chances out rebounding the Trailblazers 26-17 in the second half, leading to the 73-60 victory.
The Trailblazers were led by senior
Kanntrell Burney with 13 points going 3-4 from behind the arc.
Vernon Johnson and
Jayden Johnson-Blair each added 11 points. Johnson added 5 rebounds and 7 steals, while Johnson-Blair added 5 rebounds and 4 steals.
The Trailblazers look to get back in the win column as they take on the Eagles of SCU on Thursday, February 15th, at Trinity Basin. Game time is set for 8pm.
