TYLER, Texas – UNT Dallas men's cross country began the 2024 season with five competitors running the 4 miles at Texas Rose Horse Park on Saturday morning. The Trailblazers were well represented by the quintet, scoring 247 points and finishing ninth place in a deep field that was hosted by NCAA Division II UT Tyler. Other institutions racing included Division II programs: Harding, St. Edwards, and host UTT. Overall, there were 12 institutions with participants from NCAA DII, DIII, NAIA, and NJCAA.
Leading the Trailblazers with the fastest time was freshman Santos Vega. In his collegiate debut, Vega ran 24:50.60 and finished in 53rd. Sophomore Devin Page (DeSoto, Texas) followed closely two spots back with a time of 25:08.60.
Next was sophomore Major McGill (Forney, Texas) with a time of 28:18.90 and finished in 66th. Rounding out the group for UNTD were sophomore Ernest Ayanugo (DeSoto, Texas) and freshman Jahaden Jackson with respective times 30:42.40 and 34:10.10.
All times for the Trailblazers were personal bests with this being the first collegiate career 4 miles competition. Interim Head Coach Knashia Dawson made her fall debut to lead the team after serving the previous four seasons as an assistant.
UNT Dallas cross country is scheduled to race next locally at University of Dallas/911 Invitational on the campus in Irving, Texas. Men's Race will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the women's will be at 9:00 a.m. Both races are slated to be 5k distance.
