SAC Championship Results
BETHANY, Okla. – University of North Texas at Dallas cross country competed at the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday. The men's team finished ninth out of 11 teams with 248 points. This is the first time in three SAC Championships for UNTD to defeat multiple teams, as it edged Central Christian (287) and University of Science and Arts (316).
The Trailblazers were led by freshman
Santos Vega (Houston, Texas) with a time of 28:43.80 for 40th place out of 85 participants. Vega led the Trailblazers at three-of-four competitions this fall and posted the fastest time in men's program history at a conference championship.
Sophomore
Devin Page (DeSoto, Texas) followed with a time of 30:50.42 and came in 59th. Page improved on his 8k result from last year's championship by 50 seconds. Sophomore
Major McGill IV (Forney, Texas) came in 65th with a personal record 32:03.45 mark, while freshman
Skylar Evans (Dallas, Texas) was two spots after with a 32:26.30 time. It was a personal-best mark for Evans.
Also racing for UNTD were freshman
Keilond Wright (Paris, Texas) and
Ernest Ayanugo (DeSoto, Texas) with respective times 35:53.55 and 38:05.04.
On the women's side in the 6k, two UNT Dallas competitors finished with freshmen
Jada Cole (Dallas, Texas) and
Jocelyn Owens (Dallas, Texas) posting times 50:50.89 and 50:50.96.
Oklahoma City won both the men's and women's cross country titles.
This will conclude the cross country season for interim head coach Knashia Dawson and her Trailblazers, as they turn their attention to the track and field season.
