Trailblazers Display Several Top Performances at War Hawk Classic

4/13/2025 9:50:00 PM

ABILENE, Texas – University of North Texas at Dallas track and field put together one of its top performances as a group this spring, competing two days in Abilene, Texas, at the 2025 War Hawk Classic hosted by NCAA Division III McMurry University. The Trailblazers saw many competitors set season-best results on several events.

On the men's side, sophomore Devin Page (DeSoto, Texas) led a trio of Trailblazers in the 800 Meters with a fourth place finish and ran his fastest time of the spring with a 1:55.36. Classmate Major McGill IV (Forney, Texas) and freshman Santos Vega (Houston, Texas) also competed with fastest times of the outdoor season in the event.

McGill IV appeared in the most events for the Trailblazers, running in the 800m, 1500 Meters, and 4x400m Relay. Freshmen Markevian White (Longview, Texas), Jahaden Jackson (The Colony, Texas), Bryson Mcrae (Dallas, Texas), Kenya Singletary, Vega and Page all had multiple events competed over the weekend.

Mcrae improved on his third place finish from a week ago in the Long Jump, which landed him SAC Field Athlete of the Week honors. His performance in the event was a personal best 7.20m (23'7.5") for second place overall and he won his section in the event. Mcrae ranks second in the conference this spring, as he was only bested by NCAA Division III's No. 1 nationally ranked McMurry's Dontre Sinegal.

White and Jackson earned personal records in the 100 Meter-Dash (10.77) and 400 Meter-Dash (50.25), respectively. Freshman Keilond Wright (Paris, Texas) also notched his best time of his career on the 400m Hurdles with a 1:00.83 for the Trailblazers third top-10 finish.

On the women's side, the Trailblazers returned their five individuals that battled last weekend in Denton. A trio of sprinters performed on the 100m and 200m with freshmen Kristian Nichols (Lancaster, Texas), Jocelyn Owens (Dallas, Texas), and Ke'Liyah Anderson (Dallas, Texas) finishing in the same order on both events. Nichols and Owens built on their spring performances with personal bests in each event. Anderson improved on her 100m time from her track debut after competing with the women's basketball team.

Senior Ryleah Fisher (Denton, Texas) competed in three field events for the Trailblazers. She set season-bests in the Shot Put (10.69m, 35'1") and Hammer Throw (33.73m, 110'8"). Fisher tied 10th in the Shot Put. Freshman Jada Cole (Dallas, Texas) completed her longest throws in the Shot Put after three competitions and improved on her Discus Throw from her event debut a month ago.

All results are listed below. UNT Dallas will compete a third straight weekend and have a final chance to prepare before conference with the Jim Mize Invitational on April 19 hosted by NCAA Division I Louisiana Tech.
