Nichols 4th Place in 100m leads Trailblazers at SAC Champs

hFORT WORTH, Texas – Several Personal Bests were achieved for the University of North Texas at Dallas track and field teams, as the final day of the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships concluded on a hot Saturday afternoon at Karen Cramer Field. The Trailblazers had its sprinters lead the way with several personal records and their two throwers compete in the Shot Put.
 
Freshman Kristian Nichols (Lancaster, Texas) took fourth place in the 100m with a 12.27 result and led her team with five points in a single event of the championships. Her time in the 200m was a PR 25.53 and she secured two more points in seventh.
 
Freshman Ke'Liyah Anderson (Dallas, Texas) delivered a pair of personal records with a 12.55 time in the 100m and 26.80 time in the 200m, as the dual sport women's basketball player displayed her best races of the spring after joining at the start of the month.
 
Freshman Jocelyn Owens (Dallas, Texas) capped her first season with a 12.72 in the 100m and 27.53 in the 200m. Freshman Jada Cole (Dallas, Texas) threw an 8.43m in the Shot Put to cap her first season with her high school teammate.
 
Senior Ryleah Fisher (Denton, Texas) ended her SAC Championship career with a fifth-place finish in Shot Put with a 10.83m mark. Fisher completed three throwing events for the second time this campaign. Her pair of fifth place finishes gave her eight points overall and contributed with Nichols in the team scoring category.
 
Fisher historically holds the Trailblazers' gold medal, which came at the 2023 SAC Championships in Hammer Throw with a 36.66m result. That team notched sixth place in women's team standings with 58 points.
 
Fisher, who is a criminal justice major, won 2024 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete and has been selected to SAC Scholar Athlete, been on All-SAC Academic Team, and made the UNT Dallas Athletic Director's List the past three semesters. Fisher truly knows how to make the most of enjoying the Journey as being a Trailblazer.
 
Interim Head Coach Knashia Dawson stated she was so proud of her team and complimented their efforts in working hard throughout the year and now seeing that pay off.
 
John Brown captured a narrow victory on the women's side with 109 points. Oklahoma City was a point away with 108 and Langston grabbed third with 106. The top five spots eclipsed triple-digits with at least 101 points.
