2026 RRAC Women's Basketball Tournament Preview

TEXARKANA, Texas – University of North Texas at Dallas women's basketball qualified for the 2026 RRAC Women's Basketball Tournament that begins February 24 – March 1. The Trailblazers (11-13, 10-12 RRAC) clinched No. 6 Seed in their first year in the Red River Athletic Conference and will play at No. 3 Seed Texas A&M-Texarkana (19-9, 17-4 RRAC) on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 5:30 p.m.

QUARTERFINAL ROUND
The Trailblazers travel to Texas A&M-Texarkana for the opening round of the RRAC Women's Basketball Tournament. The Trailblazers return to postseason play for the first time since 2021-22, which was the first year the team was affiliated with NAIA and the Sooner Athletic Conference.
 
UNT Dallas went 0-2 against the Eagles this season. At Patterson Student Center on December 18, 2025, the Trailblazers fell 81-69. A 10-point advantage for the Eagles in the second quarter proved to be the difference in the outcome.
 
Jade Myles (Dallas, Texas) scored a season-high 23 points and was 5-of-10 from three-point territory. De'Asia Johnson (Dallas, Texas) had 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
 
A&M-Texarkana was led by Breyionce George with 18 points and nine boards. Nailah Zetrenne had 12 points and Maiya Petit added 10.

WHAT THE RED RIVER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE SAYS
"Sixth-seeded UNTD is led by first-year Head Coach Otis Nicksion. The team ended the regular season with a 10-12 record and is now 11-13.
 
The Trailblazers' stats are as follows: 1635 points for 68.1 points/game, 602-of-1574 field goals, 139-of-536 threes, 290-of-468 free throws, 990 rebounds, 345 assists, 382 steals, and 99 blocks.
 
De'Asia Johnson leads her team with 362 points for 15.7 points/game,135-of-330 field goals, 40-of-138 threes, 52-of-73 free throws, 71 offensive rebounds, 108 defensive rebounds,  and 179 total rebounds. WORDS FROM THE LEADER
First-Year Head Coach Otis Nicksion is elated with how his team has worked this year to get into the conference tournament in its first season.
 
"I am super proud of this team for making it to the conference tournament and especially happy for our four seniors," Coach Otis Reflected. "This is only the second team in program history to reach the postseason tournament and finished with the most conference wins, too."
 
Coach Otis continues, "We certainly hope our seniors never forget this experience and our remaining roster gains valuable experience that will keep them hungry and motivated to make UNTD a permanent fixture in the postseason. This team worked hard all year in the classroom and on the court that they certainly deserve to be in the postseason dance!"
 
TRAILBLAZER TIDBITS
- Johnson is tied third in the conference for points-per-game (15.9) and ranks fourth in the league for rebounds-per-game (7.7).
- ShanDrea Yeldell (Dallas, Texas) leads the league in assists (119) and ranks second for total steals (106).
- Myles has scored the most posts in the past four games with 67.
- The Trailblazers are 5-7 in away games this season.
- The team's only conference tournament game was as the 10th seed at Oklahoma City in the 2021-22 SAC. UNTD fell 69-67 during that contest.
- While none of the current Trailblazer players were in that game, Assistant Coach Mykayla Dumas was the leading scorer with 19 points.
 
LAST TIME OUT
UNT Dallas enjoyed Senior Day with an 82-65 victory over Louisiana Christian University. The Trailblazers won two straight games and 3-of-4 with their loss being a single-point on the road. Yeldell had 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals, while Myles scored 13. Other seniors Allysa Penley (Waco, Texas) and Kylyn Minor (Garland, Texas) scored 12 and 11, respectively.  
 
A&M-Texarkana dropped its final regular season game at Texas A&M-San Antonio in a contest that determined the No. 2/3 seed. The final score was 81-79, as the Eagles rallied from a first half deficit and came up just short in the fourth quarter rally. Prior to that, the team had won 10-of-11 games, which included a win in Dallas on Feb. 10. The Eagles are 10-4 at the friendly confines.
 
UP NEXT
The winning team will advance to the RRAC semifinals at Alexandria's Laborde Earles Coliseum, formerly the Rapides Parish Coliseum. The winner of this matchup goes against the winner of Texas A&M-San Antonio and Texas College on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1:00 p.m.
 
The winner of the semifinals will play on Sunday, March 1, at 2:30 p.m.
 
The 45th Annual Women's Basketball National Championship Opening Rounds are on March 13-14 at various campus sites. The final rounds will be held March 19-24 at Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
 
The tournament champion or runner-up will earn an automatic bid to nationals.
LSUS has already clinched an automatic bid as the Regular Season Champion, so winning the tournament would allow the runner-up team to also qualify.
